Imagine one KG of pure gold in a lump of hundred KG of gold ore. Can this one KG of pure gold separate itself from 99 KG impurities of its own! Unless the ore passes through various mining machinery and processes one KG of pure gold could not be separated from surrounding impurities.
Same is the case with a soul atman. Lord Krishna represents soul atman existing in human body. Lord Krishna is always depicted as sarthi (charioteer) of the chariot (human body) belonging to Arjuna. No soul atman could purify itself of its own. It needs a medium, a body to work out its karma… remove dross impurities within.
It is only through cycle of 8.4 million manifestations a soul atman reaches stage of absolute purity. Every single human being by indulging in nishkama karma yoga must overpower five senses and mind to reach stage of absolute purity as a soul atman, the consciousness within. The journey of spirituality has to be traveled by human beings all alone. Lord Krishna could do nothing in the matter except prompt from within. The voice of Lord Krishna from within always guides us on right path.
Going back to Lord Krishna simply means a soul atman regaining its lost original pure prime pristine primordial form forever. Undertaking spiritual journey though a matter of personal choice was the ultimate requirement of our soul atman within! We may do it now in present life or leave it for future manifestations. All depends on our goal of present life.
