All human beings evolved from stage of animals, not necessarily directly from monkeys. We just could not say, as many human beings exist as many monkeys should have been there. Based on residual balance of karma at the time of death our soul atman manifesting another form! The moment our soul atman crosses animal threshold, we could evolve from any stage of animals.
Jainism scriptures say even a pigeon could directly manifest human form in next manifestation.
