It is not human beings, the physical manifest form that survives rigours of death. It is our soul atman, the consciousness within residing in our heart that was perennial, indestructible. Manifestation after manifestation our soul atman continues manifesting body after another. The human form was but a medium for our soul atman to work out its karma, remove dross impurities within. The moment human beings reached stage of enlightenment and finally moksha salvation the soul atman freed of dross impurities within reaches stage of immortality.
In absence of dross impurities within the need for a pure soul atman to manifest another body ceases to exist. This stage of absolute purity is termed immortality.
