The precept of reincarnation relates to our true inner self, soul atman existing in our heart and not the manifest physical body! With death, all relationships of present life come to naught. The karmic balance of present life transfers to next manifestation. Our present wife may become our son in next manifestation. We ourselves could become wife to our present wife (our husband in next manifestation). Based on karmic bondage amongst each other, the relationships happened in next manifestation.
Most likely we would manifest a form within the same family or in another family! The relationships of present life were limited to present earthly domain. As we were primarily a spirit, soul atman manifesting human form… the present journey of life truly belonged to our true inner self existing within our heart. Everything stated in scriptures relate to journey of soul atman, never the manifest physical human form! If the bonding between husband and wife in present life was really strong based on merits, it is quite possible that the same relationship continued even in next manifestation.
The relationship remaining the same, the form may vary! The husband in present life may become wife and the wife becoming husband in next manifestation! Path of spirituality was all about breaking this bondage of karma forever. For a true spiritual seeker eventually the whole world becomes one large family.
