In erstwhile Bharatvarsha (now India) not hundreds but thousands gained enlightenment in the entire history of mankind!
The history of enlightenment starts from times of Vedas (Hinduism revelations) when renowned, accomplished… enlightened Sages and Rishis invoked direct messages from God Almighty. Vedas are first words of God invoked by mankind. Subsequently evolved Upanishads (independent treatises)! All principal Upanishads were invoked by enlightened sages and Rishis. Then followed Lord Krishna, an avatar of his era (God manifest in human form)! The kundalini of Lord Krishna awakened at a young age.
All enlightened souls like Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed followed Lord Krishna.
In mediaeval times came enlightened souls like Sant Tukaram, Eknath, Namdev, Samarth Ramdas, Kabirdas, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu and Jnaneshwar etc.
In recent times advent Adi Shankaracharya, Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana, all of whom gained enlightenment in their lifetime.
In Jainism also 24th Tirthankaras (Siddhas) manifest on mother earth including Mahavira.
The list of enlightened souls in India was endless.
After gaining enlightenment, moment one left mortal frame… one gains moksha salvation forever.
