When one indulges in meditation we were expected to limit our thoughts, stop flow of thoughts to our brain in totality. This could be realized only gradually. The whole crux of meditation was concentrating on a single thought, a single principle of life at a time. This would practically reduce to living in the moment, to be present in the moment. In deep meditation we need channelizing all our energies behind a single thought or a principle of life. Only then we could reach the hidden underlying meaning.
When Arjuna was asked to hit his arrow in the center of eye of a fish that was hung on a distant tree… on asking what he saw, Arjuna replied… the center of the eye! Arjuna was oblivious of the surroundings, the whole fish… the tree etc. In meditation our power of concentration always had to be absolute!
