The purpose of life as detailed in Bhagavad Gita was emancipation from cycle of birth and death forever. This became possible when human beings traveling path of spirituality gained enlightenment in their lifetime. Enlightenment could only be gained when the seeker worked for welfare of mankind all the time. No matter what religion one followed, if we desire reaching God in present life… our indulgence in nishkama karma yoga was mandated. A nishkama karma Yogi all the time worked for welfare of mankind. For a trustee, caretaker fruits of karma performed always belonged to God Almighty. No seeker, traveler of spiritual path… a monk could reach stage of enlightenment unless one worked for mankind at large all the time. Monkhood, becoming a saint was never a personal goal.
We succeed establishing absolute control over five senses and mind only when we worked for welfare of mankind all the time. Unless we cut our ego to zero, we could never reach stage of enlightenment. In monkhood there was no more ego left to work for individual self. Innumerable so-called travelers of spiritual path lining religious centres like Haridwar, Rishikesh and Varanasi failed to realize that unless they killed their ego, they could never establish control over five senses and mind. Running away from family responsibilities was not a solution on path of pure spirituality. Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita says one who indulges in teachings of Bhagavad Gita while remaining in Grihastha ashram was the biggest Yogi of all. Just by touching feet of wife and child we could never absolve self of karma in totality. We have to burn our karma to zero to reach stage of enlightenment.
