The adage we have only “one life to live” must be our basic principle of life. Why think of afterlife or principle of reincarnation, rebirth. As the present human form was manifest by our soul atman, we had only one life to live… the present earthly domain. Whatever we need to accomplish has to be achieved in this very life. We just could not leave things to chance for next manifestation.
After death of present body our soul atman would manifest a new body. The present earthly human form becomes dead forever… what continues is the released soul atman. In a limited time span of 70 to 80 years of earthly abode… we must indulge in the best as did Swami Vivekananda. Even though Swami Vivekananda could have easily gained enlightenment in his lifetime, he refused to do so.
When Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa, his spiritual master asked him point-blank… why he had come to him if his goal of life was not reaching God in present life… Swami Vivekananda politely replied he only wanted to affirm presence of God, nothing more. Swami Vivekananda all his life indulged in service of mankind. Welfare of community was foremost for him and in that he truly excelled.
When young I did not want to fall into the rut of life… the never-ending cycle of birth and death. I wanted to pursue path of spirituality to reach God in present life time. By grace of God I finally did and succeeded in reaching God in 1993 37 years of age.
