How did we identify self… with our ego or true inner self? As a manifest physical human being we were directly governed by our ego (Aham in Hinduism). In absence of ego, no human being on mother earth would indulge in karma. It is our ego that prompts from within to indulge in various stages of karma based on our desires, wishes. Human beings who worked with unattached attitude had subdued their ego.
For travelling spiritual path sincerely and diligently, subduing our ego in totality was necessitated. Only then we could reach our true inner self… our soul atman, the consciousness within. From six years of age I never gave a damn to my ego. I overpowered it by travelling path of absolute truthfulness all the time. So much so I could hear the sweet small inner voice of my soul atman that always guided me on right path.
This true inner self is the real self of us… totally unchangeable, inscrutable. The moment this true inner self overtake us, we become champions of physical life mastering our destiny in totality. For travelers of spiritual path listening to the voice of our soul atman was a very important ingredient if we really wanted to reach god in present life. My observation says most human beings let their bloated ego preside, takeover!
Unless we activated our true inner self, we could never contemplate, indulge in self enquiry successfully. For becoming one with our true inner self, for negating karma to zero overpowering five senses and mind was necessitated. Our real self never changes, but we can get its guidance by subduing our ego. I have done it all my life and so can others.
The real concept of our true inner self can be understood as follows –
Our soul atman, the spirit within is our true inner self that is sandwiched in dross impurities within. Suppose a lump of hundred KG of gold ore contained one KG of pure gold (an independent soul atman). In laymen terms one KG of pure gold (pure soul atman) is surrounded by 99 KG of impurities! By indulging in requisite karma we slowly reduced dross impurities within.
As we progressed ahead on spiritual path, this lump of hundred KG reduces to 89 KG meaning one KG of pure gold surrounded by 88 KG of impurities (dross impurities within). Further indulgence in karma results in one KG of pure gold surrounded by 45 KG of impurities! Becoming a Swami Vivekananda means one KG of pure gold surrounded by 2~3 KG of impurities.
Gaining enlightenment, becoming a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or prophet Mohammed means one KG of pure gold devoid of dross impurities within gaining absolute purity forever. By travelling spiritual path one finally becomes one KG of pure gold, a pure soul atman… a bodhi, a Jina forever.
Precepts in field of pure spirituality were not difficult to understand, we only need following path of self enquiry, logical reasoning… contemplation.
