People pray to God and also visit temples to make a donation. Are we trying to bribe God? Most indulged in this sort of charity, filling coffers of temples with illegal wealth (none donated from hard earned money except poor) with a hope of receiving grace from God. Even though all realized that God could not be bribed yet most indulged in this activity all the time!
It is not the grace of God that helped people but it is an affirmation in self that helped one! We need a medium to affirm our faith and the result… donations to temples! All my life I affirmed my faith in God, through path of contemplation, introspection… logical reasoning! Not for once did I bribe God to earn his grace. So much so that traveling path of spirituality I finally realized self, realized God 37 years of age.
People also donated to religious pundits with the hope of earning a seat in heaven (swarga in Hinduism). Most Hindus believed that swarga (heaven) could not be reached through path of donations. It was only karma that paved way to reach heaven. But calling a king naked was not their piece of pie. To bell the cat, call religious pundits names was not their motto. They were susceptible to fleecing by religious pundits but not willing to break the taboo.
None could go to heaven bodily as heaven exists in core of sun where temperatures exceed millions of degrees centigrade! Heaven was a place for hibernation of souls’ atmans, never the bodily self!
