If an outsider came to me and asked, “Which of your 10 fingers is the best”… what would I say, the middle, index, ring and pinky finger or the thumb? Would I be able to justify any of my answers? For me, all my eight fingers and two thumbs were equally important. Attempting to make a distinction between different shlokas verses of Bhagavad Gita on parameter of “best” is pure blasphemy, uncalled for.
Could we ever discriminate between different members of the family, ever? I know instances within my family when I asked youngsters in the family (the grandkids) whom they liked most… mother or father! I cannot forget the day when the three-year-old replied politely… both! Kids are born in image of God Almighty. If a child could not make a distinction between ones parents, how could we, a serious traveler of spiritual path justify making a distinction between different shlokas verses of Bhagavad Gita?
For a true traveler of spiritual path, a sincere seeker all shlokas verses of Bhagavad Gita were equally important excepting chapter 1. The chapter one of Bhagavad Gita (Adhyay one) primarily deals with history of individual family members of both Kauravas and Pandavas clans fighting Mahabharata war. The real teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita start from chapter two (Adhyay two).
Regarding Bhagavad Gita one thing was absolutely clear. Either we indulged in teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita (for reaching God in present life) or we refrained from doing so. There was nothing in between. We just could not say I only want to indulge in so-and-so chapter. The entire gist of Bhagavad Gita, the complete teachings of Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita formed one particular set of teachings.
I know many people who started their journey of spirituality (indulgence in path of jnana yoga) only to quit midway, becoming serious patients of depression. The foremost of all scriptures on mother earth, the teachings of Bhagavad Gita must either be indulged wholeheartedly lest we suffer at the end of journey. Path of spirituality must always be travelled if we had a passion for knowing God in present life.
