Reincarnation and Karma Most Hindus cared for Afterlife Worried about Past but Cared Little for Present

The doctrine of reincarnation and karma is ingrained into every Hindu living in India. From the very beginning Hindus are taught rather told by elders in the family and also outside that we were primarily a soul atman and would keep manifesting form after another based on karma. This resulted in Hindus neglecting the present. Most Hindus cared for after life and also worried about past but cared little for the present. The anxiety on faces of Hindus says it all. Comparatively in West people lived for a single day. They were born in the morning and died in the evening. For them every single day was a new life full of charm, gaiety and laughter.

If we perceive law of reincarnation and law of karma in right perspective we would realize that apart from worrying about future manifestations we had to live the present life in a cordial manner as people do in west. For travelers of spiritual path this was not impossible, it could be done. Enlightened souls like Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana successfully did it. Pitfalls on path of pure spirituality were many but not so disheartening as to leave the path. Even while living in Grihastha ashram (family life) we could undertake spiritual journey to reach God in present life. There was no cause for any pretence. We must try to differentiate between religion and spirituality.

Why indulge in rituals (religious practices) when religion never took one towards God Almighty. God can only be realized, stage of enlightenment can only be reached via path of spirituality never religion.
