Spiritual awakening simply means reaching stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana), becoming a Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ or Prophet Mohammed in present life. The stage of spiritual awakening can be reached by undertaking spiritual journey as detailed in Bhagavad Gita of Hinduism. Religion (path of rituals) never leads one towards stage of spiritual awakening.
The stage of spiritual awakening in laymen terms means becoming a pure soul atman forever. Dross impurities within removed forever, a pure soul atman need not manifest a body again. This stage of absolute purity of soul atman is the stage total awakening realized by an awakened, enlightened human being. The moment an enlightened one leaves mortal frame one gains moksha salvation forever!
The moment one gains enlightenment until leaving mortal frame, one experiences stage of spiritual awakening. Stage of absolute awakening is an irreversible process. A bud having become a flower cannot become a bud again. The stage of enlightenment is permanent, exists forever.
