In yesteryears when people did not know much about God, to appease various gods and goddesses people indulged in yagnas (sacrifices), rituals. If God Almighty in human form manifested on mother earth, then people would have tried appeasing him with all sorts of offerings. In absence of Sakaar form of God (having no form) people made offerings in temples with hope of winning grace of God Almighty.
Such offerings in present times carried no meaning. Mankind has understood that God Almighty never lived in temples but in our heart in miniscule form as our soul atman, the consciousness within. To appease God we need travelling path of absolute truthfulness. Our indulgence in good karma, positive karma most of time was necessitated. Only then choicest grace of God precipitates on mankind.
Why offer anything in temples that does not reach God? By working for entire mankind we were serving God Almighty in all its glory. If we truly desire offering something to God, we must offer our selfless service for benefit of mankind. Indulging in karma nishkama karma way of life is what God desires.
