After mortal death if the residual balance of karma was negative, the released soul atman hibernated in heaven (naraka in Hinduism). This happened only if matching parents were not available on mother earth. The moment matching parents become available, the hibernating soul atman immediately manifests a new body to start new journey of life on mother earth.
The stay of a soul atman in hell or heaven directly relates to availability of parents on mother earth, it was never eternal nor relates to karma of one life. The total residual balance of karma of all previous manifestations was governing. When a soul atman reaches stage of absolute purity, it need not manifest a new body or go to heaven or hell. The cosmic life cycle for a pure soul atman finally comes to an end.
Emancipated from cycle of birth and death forever, the liberated soul atman finally enters abode of God, kingdom of God (Vaikuntha in Hinduism), a point of no return.
