The most controversial topic on path of religion or spirituality, God was never a missing entity of cosmic system. It is inherent in all living beings in miniscule form as our soul atman, the spirit within. As per Bhagavad Gita, the foremost of all sacred scriptures existing on mother earth we owed our existence to presence of God Almighty in cosmic system. Call it by any name but it exists.
In Hinduism God is also termed Parmatman (Param atman), Sanatana Purusha, Karta (creator), Bhagwan, Ishwar, Hari, khuda, Narayan, Prabhu and Brahman etc. Give it any name but the cosmic entity called God remains the same in all religions of world. Believing in God is believing in self, our true identity as a soul atman, the consciousness within. Maybe I did not call it God but a form of energy.
For reaching stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana) and finally moksha salvation, 100% belief in God (termed shraddha in Hinduism) was necessitated. In absence of 100% faith, one could not travel path of spirituality sincerely and diligently. Prime reason why in last about 150 years amongst 7 billion people existing world over only Sri Ramakrishna Paramhansa and Maharishi Ramana finally realised self.
100% faith in God was that important inherent ingredient of spiritual path in absence of which one could never travel path of jnana yoga (absolute wisdom) to realise hidden underlying cosmic truths of life contained in sacred texts of various religions of world. In absence of belief in God, we could never understand workings of doctrine of reincarnation, even karma.
By believing in God we could expedite our spiritual journey. Believing in God does not mean following a religion. In present times God relates to spirituality not religion (path of rituals).
