For lay mortals to reach stage of enlightenment, realize god in present life… indulgence in spirituality (not religion) was necessitated. Simply by reading scriptures one never gains anything spiritually. The spiritual wisdom never lay in textbooks of spirituality. All scriptures merely acted as guidebooks. Literal indulgence in scriptures led nowhere. Path of spirituality demands working for welfare of mankind all the time. Stage of enlightenment was a byproduct of spiritual journey.
When we indulged in nishkama karma yoga for welfare of entire mankind, when we indulged in scriptures through path of contemplation to realize hidden inner truths of life… we opened self from within. Subduing ego, establishing gradual control over desires and wishes… when we succeeded establishing absolute control over five senses and mind… karma negated to zero forever.
In absence of dross impurities within, our soul atman finally reaches stage of absolute purity. Absence of dross impurities within means soul atman need not manifest a human body again. The need for a pure soul atman to manifest a new body ceases to exist. One finally reaches stage of enlightenment.
Path of jnana yoga (absolute wisdom) and nishkama karma yoga was necessitated to reach stage of enlightenment… realize God from within.
Apart from practice of jnana yoga, nishkama karma yoga… 100% belief in God, truthfulness was necessitated. One also needs practicing absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation to awaken kundalini shakti.
We must never forget… all man gods like Mahavira, Gautama Buddha, Jesus Christ and Prophet Mohammed in the initial stages of life were born ordinary mortals.
