Living in the present, practicing materialism is opposite of enlightenment! As a human being we had only two paths to follow… spiritual or material! Initially all human beings were material by nature. We indulged in day-to-day routines of life guided by five senses and mind. The attachment of five senses was difficult to kill. Overpowering ego desires and wishes we could slowly overpower five senses forever. Overpowering five senses gets necessitated if our goal of life was spiritual, never material.
As a mortal human being we must enjoy the material world as it is… always living in the present, never a slave to our circumstances. The best example of materialism was life people lived in West. They were born in the morning and died in the evening. In between they lived a life full of zeal, enthusiasm and laughter. Nothing was better.
If we desire becoming a Buddha, we must change our goal of life from materialistic to spiritual.
