Death facilitates migration of soul atman from one body to another. When the old form decays and dies, the released soul atman manifests a new body. In absence of a body, soul atman was inert! To purify itself, cleanse self of dross impurities within it needs a medium, a body to work out its karma!
Souls’ atmans were beyond manifestations of physical manifest life. The moment it manifests a form it was governed by five senses and mind. The physical attributes relate to human body, never the world of souls atmans! It was for human form to indulge in karma prime reason why we had and ego (Aham in Hinduism). In absence of ego, no life form would indulge in karma… everything in cosmos would become stagnant, decay and die!
From spirituality point of view both sufferings and happiness were two sides of the same coin. For life to evolve in cosmic life cycle… one undergoes cycle of sufferings and happiness all the time! In absence of one the other carried no meaning.
