Unless we successfully established total control over five senses and mind, we cannot negate karma to zero! To reach stage of absolute purity as a soul atman, negation of karma in totality was necessitated. To remove dross impurities within a soul atman indulging in karma was the only way of life.
Control over desires and wishes followed automatically if we subdue our ego (Aham in Hinduism) successfully. Control over ego comes gradually but was not impossible. Indulging in nishkama karma yoga all the time we could easily establish control over desires and wishes. A true Yogi never hankers after fruits of karma performed. One all the time acted like a caretaker, trustee… offering fruits of karma performed to God. We truly were an instrument in hands of God doing his bidding all the time.
To control flow of thoughts to our brain in totality, control over desires and wishes was necessitated. A true Yogi has to reach stage of Nirvikalpa Samadhi (stage of absolute nothingness) when not a single thought flows to our brain uninvoked. This is the stage of enlightenment (kaivalya jnana).
