The battle of Mahabharata was never about past or present but about continuity of life in cosmic system. It was all about re-establishing Dharma (righteousness) in the face of adharma (lawlessness).
The entire story of Mahabharata, the epic concentrates on life journey of human beings! Everything contained in Mahabharata epic was allegorical, symbolic.
Every single moment of life battle of Mahabharata continues within every single human being on mother earth. One invoked thousands of thoughts every second both positive and negative incessantly, not in our control. A battle rages between both positive and negative forces of nature all the time. Sometimes we relied on positive aspects of life and at other times (dominated by ego) on the negative.
In this fight was produced Vish (poison) that we could retain in the neck (as did by Lord Shiva) or in the entire body (as did by Lord Shiva or Lord Krishna whose body was always depicted as dark blue). Apart from Vish (poison) was produced Soma, Amrita (elixir of life) that helps us activating our chakras, kundalini! Indulging in precepts of Bhagavad Gita we could activate our kundalini fully gaining enlightenment at the end of spiritual journey.
By practicing absolute celibacy for a minimum period of 12 years in continuation human beings could awaken kundalini shakti fully, the coiled Serpentine energy lying dormant in base of spine. Sexual energy was the most potent of all energies made available to mankind by grace of God Almighty. Channelizing sexual energy towards our cosmic goal of life was the purpose of Mahabharata.
The only purpose of Mahabharata was human beings reaching stage of life and finally moksha salvation.
