Hindu Gods and Goddesses Hindu Mythology

We must never relate Hindu mythology to absolute reality. Both these philosophies had distinct paths. As per Hindu mythology Lord Brahma is the creator, Lord Vishnu the maintainer and Lord Shiva the destroyer. From absolute reality point of view all the three Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu and Lord Mahesh (Shiva), part of Hindu Trinity of gods were nothing more than attributes of God Almighty (Brahman in Hinduism). As per Bhagavad Gita and Advaita Vedanta doctrine of Hinduism God Almighty was one and only one, Brahman in Hinduism. Other than God Almighty (Brahman) nothing existed in cosmos.

This distinct reality between two paths can be realized by travelling path of pure spirituality as detailed in Bhagavad Gita, the sermon given to mankind by Lord Krishna. Scholars, seekers like Swami Vivekananda indulged in path of pure spirituality. But travelers of religious path (those not wanting to travel path of pure spirituality) limited their activities to Hindu mythology alone. They believed in world of rituals and for them to pray to God they needed a Sakaar form of God (having a form). They just could not pray to Nirakaar form of God (having no form) as they could not comprehend, visualize the entity known as Brahman.

Praying to a single entity Brahman in Hinduism was beyond question for travelers of religious path. Religious teachers, preachers developed a horde of gods and goddesses so that praying by normal human beings became easier. Furthermore, in yesteryears when concept of God Almighty had not yet evolved… people prayed to different forms of God Almighty. To escape heat of scorching sun people prayed to sun god. To escape massive deluges people prayed to God Varuna. To escape wrath of thunderstorms and uncontrollable wind people prayed to Vayu God.

As the ailment, accordingly the manifestation of God! Those desiring material wealth prayed to goddess Lakshmi. But in field of pure spirituality, Lord Krishna abhors such worship and praying. As per Lord Krishna we must pay obeisance only to the one and only God, Brahman in Hinduism.

Furthermore, God Almighty was not the form of human beings. Ever since it created Cosmos (Brahman in Hinduism) it acts like Dhrishta (onlooker) never interfering in creation of his. The whole cosmic system was governed by inscrutable laws of karma and evolution. As our indulgence, accordingly manifested our destiny! In simple words law of karma says, as we sow so shall we reap nothing less or more.

In Hindu mythology there exist a total of 330 million gods, meaning one God for every four Indians. Based on our choice, our limitations one chose path of life… religious or spiritual. Path of pure spirituality leads one towards God Almighty. One could realize self, realized god by indulgence in teachings of Bhagavad Gita. God could never be reached via path of religion (path of rituals), path of Hindu mythology.
