The importance of Rig Veda lay in path of religion (rituals), religious practices! Ever since coming of Lord Krishna, the teachings of Bhagavad Gita became supreme. To reach God in present life, to reach stage of enlightenment… everything necessary to undertake spiritual journey was contained in Bhagavad Gita. One need not indulge in Rig Veda in present times as God could not be reached via path of rituals alone. In present times the teachings of Rig Veda was limited to scholars.
