A soul when it manifests a body is termed consciousness. A soul exists in our body in our heart. In absence of consciousness in our heart, the body does not carry any meaning.
A soul atman is the true essence of life. Other than world of souls’ atmans nothing existed in cosmos. If an individual grain of sand is an independent soul atman, the whole mound God Almighty.
With limited power of science, the essence of soul atman could never be determined. A source of magnanimous cosmic energy, every soul atman when manifest in body seemed inert. It carries out all the functions in the body with the help of ego (Aham in Hinduism). Realizing our true nature, realizing that we were primarily a soul atman is our ultimate goal of life on mother earth.
As detailed in scriptures of Hinduism we were primarily a spirit, a consciousness manifesting human form. The moment human beings gained enlightenment, the soul atman within reaches stage of absolute purity. The cosmic journey of a soul atman comes to an end when an enlightened being gains moksha salvation.
Every living being on mother earth possesses a soul atman. It is through complex process of karma and evolution, every soul atman finally reaches 8.4 millionth manifestation, last in cosmic life cycle when it finally reaches stage of absolute purity.
