Destiny of Mankind Predetermined Can we change our Destiny Bhagavad Gita

You are mixing religion with spirituality, Hindu mythology with spirituality. Bhagavad Gita is purely a spiritual document, something following which human beings gained enlightenment in their lifetime.

It is an absolute misnomer that destiny of mankind lay in hands of God. It has been explicitly detailed in scriptures of Hinduism that human beings were absolute masters and controllers of life. As our karma accordingly manifested our destiny! As we sow so shall we reap nothing less or more says law of karma.

If Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita says to indulge in karma nishkama karma way, there was an apparent reason for it. As per Bhagavad Gita the indirect control of our life lay in hands of our soul atman, the spirit within. Our soul atman, the consciousness within manifested human form to work out its karma; remove dross impurities within. The human form was only a medium for soul atman to gain absolute purity.

As our soul atman manifested human form, the fruits of karma indulged by human beings always belonged to soul atman, the spirit within. Bhagavad Gita theory of nishkama karma exhorts working with an unattached attitude (not detached). As per Lord Krishna even while living a family life we could indulge in path of spirituality to reach God. This becomes possible by indulging in karma nishkama karma way.

King Janaka (father of Sita in Ramayana) and JRD Tata (the erstwhile scion of Tata industry) were karma yogis par excellence. Both indulged in karma nishkama karma way. Even while conducting affairs of his kingdom King Janaka indulged in path of pure spirituality with Sage Yajnavalkya, composer and compiler of the most voluminous Brihadaranyaka Upanishad. Not for a moment in his lifetime JRD Tata ever considered Tata Empire as his own.

Both King Janaka and JRD Tata worked like a true trustee of God. In the trusteeship concept everything belonged to God Almighty… one was only a custodian, caretaker taking care of things that already belonged to God. In the trusteeship concept one was only an instrument in hands of God Almighty, a humble soldier doing his bidding all the time.

It is path of nishkama karma yoga that tells us not to abandon our family in search of God. Religious places in India like Haridwar, Rishikesh and Varanasi are full of people who left their family midway only to gain nothing in bargain. Lord Krishna vehemently says we can gain everything even while living in family. Becoming a recluse, mendicant in search of jungles (deep dense forests) was not necessitated.

Law of karma clearly says that results are proportional to karma indulged. Even if we sat idle, one indulged in karma all the time. Every single thought precipitates into an act of karma. The doctrine of Bhava karma in Jainism is dominant. If we committed a murder in our thoughts, it was an unpardonable offence for which we would be punished by God but, on a much lesser scale than actual murder. Even in our inaction lay seeds of action. We just could not avoid karma at any stage of life.

Prime reason why Lord Krishna exhorts mankind to indulge in karma nishkama karma way, never caring for fruits of karma performed all the time.

What does predetermined mean? If we do not act then our life becomes predetermined. It will flow as usual governed by our karma of past and present. If we exert over and above our predetermined life, then we can manifest destiny forever, become master and controller of life by taking the control in our hands.
