If a robber in present life was bequeathed an unlimited amount of wealth by someone then this individual even after indulging in vice would go scot-free, may not even care for law catching up later on.
Those with a baggage of positive residual balance of karma from previous lives enjoyed present life even if they indulged in bad karma in present life. That was how law of karma worked. The residual balance of karma keeps transferring from one manifestation to another, body after body.
Only if we believed in doctrine of reincarnation, rebirth… world of souls’ atmans would this precept of karma become distinctly clear to us. We were primarily a spiritual being manifesting human form.
Only when the residual balance of karma from previous manifestations neutralizes, becomes zero… does hell break loose for such people! Until then, they keep enjoying fruits of karma indulged by them in previous manifestations.
