There were two aspects of life… physical and spiritual! In physical manifest life jogging and aerobics were the best bet to keep our body fit and fine. Gymnastics was an added asset but related more to sports than physical fitness.
Before indulging in spirituality, yoga meditation… contemplation yogis indulged in various yogic exercises (asanas) only to keep their body fit and fine in the colder reaches of Himalayas. Indulging in asanas one could keep body temperatures maintained even in colder climates.
But in present times going to Himalayas for contemplation was not necessitated. Even one on path of pure spirituality could indulge in jogging, aerobics to maintain bodily fitness.
