The statement men were superior to woman stems from the inherent ignorance dominated by our ego. Gargi, the famous philosopher saint cut across her ego, ignorance to gain enlightenment in her lifetime. It is not only you, but all human beings by nature were ignorant. If that were not so, all could reach stage of enlightenment in no time.
Siddhartha Gautama abandoning his family was a big mistake. He was never pardoned for it by God Almighty. As detailed in Bhagavad Gita and Upanishads, we just could not abandon our family in search of absolute truths of life. Prime reason why Gautama Buddha reached stage of enlightenment in the end stages of his life… almost 80 years of age.
