At any given point of time in life of human beings either our ego was active or our soul atman, the spirit within! There was never a third force working within.
For a human being to indulge in karma, presence of ego was ordained by God Almighty. In absence of ego no human being on mother earth would indulge in karma… everything would decay and die. It is propelled by ego human beings worked wonders on mother earth.
Travelers of spiritual path subdued their ego in totality to reach stage of enlightenment and finally moksha salvation. Path of spirituality demands negation of karma in totality. Karma can be negated to zero only by subduing ego forever and establishing absolute control over five senses and mind. Ego can be subdued in totality by indulging in nishkama karma yoga, never attaching self to fruits of karma performed. Working with a detached attitude is what nishkama karma yoga of Hinduism all about.
Human form was manifested by our spirit, consciousness… soul atman existing in our heart. The human form was only a medium for soul atman within to cleanse self of dross impurities within. All the time our soul atman desires regaining its lost original pure prime pristine primordial form at the earliest. When human beings indulged in path of spirituality, it was the most pleasant experience for a soul atman.
Our soul atman reaching stage of absolute purity was the cosmic goal of life for all human beings.
If our goal of life was not spiritual, prompted by ego human beings indulged in day-to-day affairs of life. Ego was not bad unless it bloated… mesmerized by glare of worldly riches. All successful people in different walks of life had ego but not a bloated one. Those dogged by bloated ego never succeeded in life. Such people all the time frittered their energies doing nothing worthwhile. Ego must always be directed towards a single goal of life to manifest absolute success.
No human being ever had an independent mind. We only have a brain that works like a receiving and transmitting station. Our ego all the time worked in conjunction with our intellect (buddhi).
