As a scripture Bhagavad Gita had nothing to do with building a nation. In times of extreme strife, tribulation comes an avatar (God manifest in human form) to re-establish dharma (righteousness) against evil forces of adharma (lawlessness). The principles of Bhagavad Gita cannot be understood by masses literally prime reason why coming of an enlightened one or an avatar was necessitated to preach, spread teachings of Bhagavad Gita to masses.
To build a nation however all citizens of nation could follow some of the prime teachings of Bhagavad Gita… travel path of nishkama karma yoga, established control over desires and wishes to some extent! One could indulge in nishkama karma yoga even though our goal of life was not spiritual. Never going after fruits of karma performed is what nishkama karma yoga of Bhagavad Gita all about. Lessening our desires and wishes was always beneficial to reduce dominance of ego within.
